The cost of carrying out home enhancements has risen by approximately
20% in the last two years, new statistics show. Rising transport and raw
material costs as well as a deficiency of tradesmen have pushed up the bill for
repairs, such as a loft renovation or installing double glazing. Those scheduling
to have a basement renovation done can now expect to give an average of 25%
more for the work at around £10,000. A roof space conversion will charge around
21% more at £17,000. Adding a
conservatory of expansion is now likely to charge 22% more than two years before,
as is having double glazing installed. Other increases contain a 16% jump in
the charge of restoring a wall exaggerated by damp or replacing cracked
brickwork and a 17% rise in the charge of having movable roof tiles re-secured.
Not surprisingly, loft conversion is the most well-liked areas to be transformed into a room. But
some people create a renovation on sheds or garages into a work space. The
standard cost of a conversion was £10,300; although many of those questioned
said they had used up less than £5,000 in the work. "Many proprietors
relish turning idle areas of their homes into living rooms.
